El Lago:
El Lago is a small, friendly, close-knit community with an interesting
heritage. Back in the 1960's, when the space program was in relative
infancy, the community of El Lago was created as a residential area for
the astronauts and upper echelon of NASA/Johnson Space Center. Nowadays,
El Lago is home to those people who appreciate the convenient location,
tree-lined streets and architectural styles of the 1960's. Residents of El
Lago tend to be more highly educated and family-oriented. There is a
community park and a boat ramp that accesses Taylor Lake, Clear Lake, and
Galveston Bay (smaller boats only). Homes here are quite affordable
($140's - $300's), and as an added bonus, many of the homes have been
updated extensively, although there are still many homes out there for the
"fixer-upper" homeowner at heart. There are a few waterfront properties
available if that is your market. Real estate taxes are relatively low,
and the school system is the excellent Clear Creek ISD. For more
